Our Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 6th August and the Executive election results were; President, Peter SMITH; Vice President, Dr Murray SCHOFIELD; Administration Director, Phil KAUFMANN; Lifesaving Directors, Michelle KIRKWOOD & Lou O’NEIL; Competition Directors, Glen STEWART & Steve ROBINSON; Education Director, Paul HOOLE; Functions Director & Bar Manager, Jeremy BATE. Numerous other operational positions were also filled to lead us into another busy season. President, Peter SMITH thanked those members who stood down from positions held last season. They have given a great deal to a successful year for the club and had worked tirelessly to put the Club in a strong position for moving forward.

Our Club was well represented at the NSW Surf Life Saving Awards of Excellence in Sydney on the evening of 5th August, with a win of the Members Services of the Year award to Mid North Coast Branch which included our Club members of Leanne Goggin, Joanne Hawkins and Gary Hawkins. Congratulations guys a great result and well deserved.
Patrols on Rainbow Beach will begin again on Saturday 23rd September and these will continue until Wednesday 25th April 2018, the Anzac Day weekend. Our voluntary patrols will be on Rainbow Beach every weekend and public holiday in that period. Rainbow Beach will also be patrolled by Lifeguards during the week in school holidays. These Lifeguards are funded by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.

If you have your Bronze Medallion, come and join us in patrolling Rainbow Beach with over 120 other volunteer patrolling members. Last year we had 14 patrols to ease the load. You are welcome to attend and join our vibrant community.

On the weekend of 7/8 October our Club will be sending 6 teams to compete in the 33nd Annual Coates Hire Coolangatta Gold. The event is a surf ski, swim, run, board event and is run on a 32.4 km Short Course (on Saturday) and a 41.5 km Long Course (on Sunday) that can be taken on individually or as a team. We wish them all well and thank our sponsors Mid Coast Uniform Solutions and Expressway Spares. Last year we had one team take gold. We a hoping the replicate that and win some more bling.

It’s time to join Nippers at our Club. Learn new surf skills, build confidence, stay fit and enjoy life in our community. Our 1st Nipper’s Day will be our Surf Club’s Open Day on Sunday 15th October. This will be ‘Ninja Nipper’s Day ‘ with a fun beach obstacle course. Pool swim day for all new Nippers are on between 9.30am and 11am on Sunday 24th September and Sunday 1st October at Laurieton Pool. Registration must be completed prior to pool swim days. Sunday 15th October is the Club’s Open Day. Come along, meet our dedicated members and see what we do. There will be demonstrations and a free BBQ. Come and check out our Nipper’s Programme which looks like tremendous fun for the new season. Membership renewals are due. Become a member of our Club for $60 for general active membership, $100 for associate membership, $160 for a family of 4 including 1 adult or $20 for social membership to our Beaches Bar. A part of being a Patrol member is continuing education apart from annual proficiency accreditation. SLSA is a Registered Training Organisation. This maintains compliance and standards of training throughout Surf Lifesaving Clubs throughout Australia. Patrol members start with the Bronze Medallion and a Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). There a number of courses for Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate being conducted at our Club. Beaches at Bonny Hills our Bar and Function Centre is getting busy again. It is available for weddings, parties and conventions. Our bar is also open to the public every Friday night between 5pm and 9pm with our patio heaters proving to be extremely popular at tis time of the year. Watch out for some new special events coming soon.
